ANCHORAGE
Anchorage is the largest city in Alaska. It resides between the Knik and Turnagain arms of the Cook Inlet and the wilderness terrain of the Chugach Mountains. The Trans-Alaska Oil Pipeline was responsible for almost doubling the population of the Chugiak-Eagle River area. It remains a major economic factor to the present day.
Some of the attractions in the area are, Thunderbird Falls, Eklutna Village, and the Chugiak State Park Visitors Center. Municipal parklands in the area offer almost every kind of outdoor activity.
GIRDWOOD
Girdwood is 35 miles southwest of downtown Anchorage. Girdwood started off as a small gold mining town, and because of its great location near Mt. Alyeska and its magnificent scenery it became Alaska's only year-round resort city. The drive to Girdwood fromAnchorage, Eagle River and Girdwood, Alaskais an attraction all by itself .The Seward Highway links the two cities.
Girdwood is mainly a resort area with all the amenities that go along with it. A dining experience no one should miss is the four-diamond-rated Seven Glaciers Restaurant, almost to the peak of Mount Alyeska. It is accessible only by aerial tram.
